About the Castlegar Snowmobile Association
The Castlegar Snowmobile Association was formed in the early 1990s by a few snowmobilers wanting to enhance their back country experience. Since then, it's grown in size and continued to adapt to the ever-changing sport of snowmobiling. The association promotes the sport of snowmobiling in the Castlegar area, as well as safety on sleds, avalanche awareness and back country ethics.
We recently signed our second partnership agreement with the BC government allowing the club to collect trail fees to help offset the costs of trail grooming and maintenance. The CSA is a registered non-profit society and maintains the club through government support, memberships, trails fees, countless volunteer hours, and donations from several generous organizations. Without these contributors, our club wouldn’t be where it is today.
Grooming is done on a weekly basis most of the season unless traffic or precipitation requires it to be done more often. Groomed trails are accessed by two main staging areas comprising of, Goose Creek and Ladybird forest service roads. Goose Creek is generally considered more family oriented with a groomed trail taking you right to the alpine. Parking on Goose Creek consists of two lots, the lower lot which is smaller and a much larger lot located just up around the corner. The smaller lot is usually left for those hauling trailers so they don’t have to contend with the hill on slippery days. Ladybird is considered a much more advanced riding area. Avalanche training and all the gear is highly recommended. Parking consists of a fairly large lot located three kilometers up Ladybird forest service road.
Both riding areas have warm up cabins to cook up lunch and just take a break out of the cold.
The best thing you can do to help the club, if you can’t commit time to volunteer is to sign up as a member. With your membership you get use of all trails, you have a voice on club matters and give the club strength in numbers. If you’re just visiting and want to ride, trail fees are set at fifteen dollars per sled each day.
The best way to purchase memberships and trail passes is on the website but you can also pay at the parking lots if you prefer.
Hope you have a safe season filled with many great memories!
