Goose Creek Trail Dec 30th 2018 As expected with the holiday season the mountains were calling. Many cold smoke junkies opted to hit the hills after the fresh snowfall. With both parking lots filled to capacity on the 30th it was expected the trail would need some attention so an extra groom was scheduled on Goose to get it back into shape. All went well as we were just able to get the drag up to the airport. Cold temps will help the trail over the next few days. At the airport we probed 175 cm and 35 cm of fresh since the last groom. Great powder in most areas other than right up top as it had been windy. On our way down the Frosty trail was also cleaned up with cat. Please help us with the parking lots by parking close together, so that others who may not be as addicted as you can still squeeze in. On busy days it would also be great if those with decks could slide the deck back in for the day. Thanks for you help with this. Last day for early bird memberships, purchase online here on the website. Again please check the Avy report and make sure you carry gear to be able to spend the night if you get into a bind out there. Hope you had a great 2018 and have an even better 2019. The Br 275 was on the Ladybird trail yesterday with the tiller for the first time. With reports of the Norns Creek section holding together it was decided to head up to 21 km on East Ladybird and get that section into shape. All went well with good snow to the 3 km parking lot. So far this season we have noticed our collection boxes not doing so well. Our memberships are also down slightly, so one would hope to see some trail passes even when the trail heads are not maintained by people collecting. If you know riders that have still not purchased a membership or have guests here from out of town please encourage them to buy trail passes as all the funds go back into the club. Thank you to all of you that do buy your memberships and trail passes as without you this club would not be where it is today. Be sure to keep an eye on the Avy reports and keep right at all times on the trails Thanks CSA Goose Creek Trail Dec 25th With the extra traffic over the holidays we decided to get on the Goose trail a couple days early. The trail was pretty beat up but groomed out nicely with the drag pulled to the airport for the first time this season. Up top we probed 165 cm with 20 cm of fresh on top of last weeks groom. Temps stayed just cool enough to keep the powder pretty good all the way down to the parking lot. We did drop the drag at the 2 km bluffs as the snow pack down low is still just to thin. Remember membership rates go to $120 after Dec 31st. Enjoy the holidays and be safe out there. Goose Creek Trail Dec 20 2018 First pull with the Mogul Master drag behind the Br 180 for the year. With above average temps down low and below average snow pack for the first 6 km we struggled to keep the snow moving out of the drag. After 6 km the snow slowly got easier to work with and we were able to get the drag to the Shaw cabin. We dropped the drag there and track packed to the airport . The snow pack was very nice powder but that thick crust from last week was definitely noticeable when probing. The probe showed 155 cm of base and 55 cm on top of last weeks snow pack. The wind was blowing hard up top so expect some wind drifts. On our way down we dropped the drag and track packed the Frosty Cabin Trail. The snow at 4 km was so hard to work on our way down we decided to drop the drag on the wide 4 km switchback. Ladybird Trail Dec 20 2018 Trail groomed to 19 km cat turnaround. The tiller is still off the cat as we can’t risk hitting rock with it on the lower sections of trail. Probed 140 cm at the cat turnaround with 55 cm of fresh since weeks groom as well. The staging areas for now are still at the parking lots so please don’t drive up on the trail just for safety sake. Remember to check Avy Reports and Have a Merry Christmas Goose Creek Trail First run up Goose Creek with the Br 180. Filled in most ditches and covered or marked all hazards we came across. Put up signage and dropped off some firewood at Shaw Cabin. We were able to get to the airport and the Frosty Cabin. Probed 125 cm up at the airport and 90 cm at the Shaw Cabin. Up top where the sun had got to the snow pack there is a thick crust. Be sure to be careful out there and keep an eye on Avy condition reports. Glad to see snow this morning as the first 2 km up from the parking lot was very thin. |
