Ladybird Trail March 30th 2018 Trail groomed to the 19 km cat turnaround all went well 10 cm of corn snow at 19 km. The parking lots are in pretty good shape but may get muddy with more traffic over the long weekend. Please when you park try not leaving to much space between trucks as space will be at a premium on busy days. Many days we see the first trucks in the parking lots think there is plenty of room but sledders show up on their own schedule and can arrive all day. Goose Creek Trail March 30th 2018 On the Goose trail we decided it was a good day to take up a pole saw and do some tree trimming while the snow pack was at its best. All went well and we groomed to the airport with the drag. The Frosty cabin got some more wood as did the Shaw cabin. Up top there was 30 cm of fresh spring powder and 310 cm of base. Still good snow from the parking lot up with only a couple dirt patches but remember its spring and things change fast. So all went well to the airport but when we went to turn around the drivers side track decided it was time to break. We were thinking of heading back up tonight but trying to do a repair like that in the dark, cold and very windy weather we decided it would be best to do in the morning. The trail is in pretty good shape as it did get one pass but we tend not to cut as hard on the way up as we do coming down. The plan for tomorrow is to get the repair done so we can come down after most of the sleds are up on the hill. The funny thing about the whole thing is I wrote this report early today so I could just add some details after we got down. Never again LOL Remember it’s the Dan Davidoff memorial ride tomorrow and there will be lots of traffic on the trails be safe and keep right at all times. Check out the Avalanche report and enjoy the long weekend. Ladybird Trail March 22 2018 Ladybird trail groomed to 19 km cat turnaround. A slide came down just around the bluffs at 13 km and had to be cleared from the trail. With the warmer temps and rain things will start to change quickly unless it gets cold again. At the cat turnaround there was only 3 cm of fresh since last week. Unloading at the parking lot and snow from there on up. Goose Creek Trail March 22 2018 The Goose Creek Trail is still holding snow on most of the trail other than the 2 km corner that always opens up first, the days of dirt patches are coming soon. The sides of the trails will tend to be soft at this time of year so best to stick where the groomer goes as it will usually stand up the best. Please if you see any hazards up there please mark them or email us so we can deal with them. We had rain to the Frosty cabin and lite snow at the Shaw cabin. At the top there was 15 cm of fresh in the past week and the base is still at 300 cm. The fresh was compact powder but it was still snowing when we were turning around at the top. Check the Avalanche report and have a great weekend. Next week there is a memorial ride being held up Goose and Ladybird in memory of Dan Davidoff check out the poster for details.
Ladybird Trail
March 15th 2018 Ladybird to the 19 km cat turnaround groomed with the 275 all went well. At the cat turnaround there was 3 cm of fresh on a crust below. Goose Creek Trail March 15th 2018 On Goose Creek we had corn snow for the first 3 km then sticky heavy snow till about 7 km, after that it changed to decent packed powder all the way up to the airport. The drag worked well considering the conditions were not the best. The Frosty trail was also groomed. At the top there was 6 cm of fresh on the trail and the base has settled to 300 cm. The trails are in great shape for this time of year. With that said please be aware of melting areas on the lower sections. So far just the 2 km switchback is showing some signs of weakness due to sun exposure. If you see anything unsafe please try to make it safe or send us and email so we can do our best to make it safe. With the settling snow pack its a great time to get out and enjoy the mountains. Take out a new to the area rider and show him/her the area to help keep them safe. Its a great time to get some important coordinates on a GPS if you have one or just buy the Never Lost app and load the trails on your phone as most newer phones have GPS capability. Enjoy the weekend , check the avalanche report before you head out. Ladybird Trail
March 8th 2018 Ladybird trail was groomed to the 19 km cat turnaround. All went well with 37 cm of fresh at the turnaround. The snow was wet and heavy below 10 km. Goose Creek trail March 8th 2018 This time of year we never really know what to expect, as temps affect how well the trail held up from the previous groom and ultimately how well it will groom out. The first 5 km the snow was very wet, but at least it was snow and not rain. At 5 km the snow was much more manageable and we were able to pull the drag right up to the Shaw Cabin. Dropped off another 40 rounds of wood and the drag then headed for the airport. At the top we probed 40 cm of fresh and a base of 340 cm. Very windy and snowing hard at the turnaround. Expect some of the best snow above 5500 ft as the warm weather is on its way. The Frosty trail was also packed and bladed. Check the avalanche report and have a great weekend. March 1st 2018
Ladybird Trail The 275 was out on Ladybird last night getting a head start on packing before all the bump builders showed up. The cat went up to 19 km on Norns Creek with the tiller working hard to settle the powder down. At the turnaround there was 43 cm of fresh and it was snowing at the time of probe. March 1 st 2018 Goose Creek Trail We were not sure whether we should just take the cat up or try pull the drag as far as we could. We went with our second choice and managed to pull to 9 km with the use of the pan under our wheels. Unless temps drop the bottom of the hill is not going to stand up so please go easy on it especially coming out of the corners. The snow was very wet till about 4 km then at about six we started having to slow right down, probed 40 cm on the trail at 6 km, 45 cm at the Shaw cabin and 75 cm up top. Managed to get the drag to 9 km, thanks again to all of you that help pack new snow with your sleds as it help us out huge. Up top the base is up to 332 cm with nice powder at about 7 km. Have a good weekend. Check out the Avy report Thanks again to Chris at Dirty Diggers for the use on his equipment to try get the water diverted from our upper parking lot on Goose. |
