Ladybird Trail With the low temps this week we had anticipated some troubles with starting the cat so we took all our gear to help her fire up. After some warming up and battery charging the 275 fired up. The trail groomed out nice to 19 km lightly snowing at the cat turnaround. Feb 22 2018 Goose creek trail We decided to head up early to see if sunshine would help the 180 fire up without any outside help, Just a short crank session and she fired up. Loaded up some wood for both cabins and headed up. We headed up to 9 km and dropped the drag for the Frosty trail then hooked back up and pulled to the airport. Probed 310 cm and 55 cm of fresh since last week. The generator needed some parts for the pull cord recoil so they are on order should be up soon. Be sure to cover all your skin as we have seen many people up with slight frostbite. Very cold up top so try to get off the hill before dark just to be safe. Check the avalanche report and have a great weekend. Feb 15th 2018
Goose Creek With cooler temps and just 15 cm of fresh on the trail we decided it would be a good day to hit the Cooley Lake trail with the drag. We were happy to get an early start on the trail as there were several trees that had to be removed between 5 km and the Lake. The airport trail was also groomed with the drag and some wood was dropped off at the cabin. The generator was brought down as the pull cord was broken and needed repair. We will get it up next groom unless someone wants to take it up by sled sooner. Probed 270 cm at the airport and 15 cm of fresh up top. Feb 16th 2018 Ladybird trail With the main trail holding up great it was decided to have the Br 275 head up straight past 11 km to 23 km on Ladybird. Be cautious as there was a slide around 16 km. Be sure to be aware of your surroundings when stopping for a break. Welcome Steph Pigeon back onto the grooming team to lend a hand with this busy season. A big Thank you to Chris at Dirty Diggers for the use of the backhoe he lent us to push out all three club parking areas. Ride safe and check out the avalanche report. Feb 8th 2018 Goose Creek
Spring like conditions are great for those who like mowing lawns but not so good for those of us that enjoy nice trails. With the big powder of last week and warm temps the trail to the airport took quit some time to get back into shape. All went well as we managed to get the drag right to the top. Can't say I ever remembered having to disconnect the drag because the wind drifts were to large to push through so use caution if the light is bad up top as they are huge. The snow was hard to work until around the Shaw cabin then decent powder to the top. Open areas were affected badly by wind at the top. Probed 290 cm again and 30 cm since our last trip up. Frosty trail to Bankert's also groomed. Be aware spring conditions mean icy conditions at times be sure to run scratchers and slow down on the trails. Feb 9th 2018 Ladybird The Br 275 was up on Ladybird trail today to the 19 km turnaround on Norns Creek then up Ladybird Creek to 14 km. With only five trees to remove from the trails we were able to head into some new territory for a change. Big wind means big cornices stay safe check the avalanche report. Grooming Feb 1st 2018
Goose Creek trail groomed to the Shaw cabin with the drag and the help of the pan (a homemade contraption that we use under the wheels of the drag to help when the snow is heavy at the bottom). At the cabin we decided to drop the drag as the snow was just to deep again to try pull the airport trail. We had been debating on trying but it soon became apparent we had made the right call as the snow just kept getting deeper. At the turnaround we had a base of 290 cm and 80 cm on our tracks since the groom on wed last week when we track packed to there. The snow was heavy till about 3 km then nice powder from there on up. Frosty trail was also track packed and snow is getting close to the deck height there. We dropped firewood at both cabins and headed for home. A big Thank you to whomever helped us out by clearing some trees that were down on the trail the day before.. Feb 1st Ladybird trail also groomed to 10 km with many trees removed from trail. The tiller again was acting up so it was decide to come down and give it another try the next day with more tools on board for testing. Use caution as there are reports of lots of trees on the trail so probably more past 10 km. Please be safe out there, check the avalanche report. Some huge slides on Ladybird have already come down so things are pretty different this year. Feb 2nd Ladybird trail cleared and groomed to 19 km turnaround another 20 trees cut off trail and the tiller issue figured out. The snow was wet till about 10 km then it gets deep. Be careful as trees are coming down all the time. Might be all clear when you go up and not clear when you come down. Stay safe and check the avalanche report. |
