Jan 24th 2018 Goose Creek trail. We decided to get on it early as the weather sounded like it was going to turn ugly (remember when I write this I am a groomer guy first sledder second, ugly means hard to work snow at bottom deep powder up top)As we do not have a tiller on the Br-180, warm temps make it very difficult to resurface the trail when temps are not below zero. Minus 5 c to about Minus 15 c is considered the best temp if you were wondering. Snow that moves and still has good moisture stands up the longest.
Expecting it to be deep we opted on track packing (leaving the 2300 lb drag in the parking lot) The first couple km on the way up it was impossible to work the snow but it got better with every km. The snow was pretty heavy till just after the old sawmill site (5 km) then it got deep quick. We probed 53 cm of great powder on the trail from last Thurs and a base of 248 cm at airport turnaround. Jan 25th, The 275 is on the Ladybird trail tonight as I write this planning on going to the 19 km turnaround. Thanks Steph, Frosty and all you others who have helped this season on the tree clearing, it is appreciated. Have a good weekend. Comments are closed.
