Ladybird Trail Feb 8th 2024 Ladybird trail groomed to 22km on east ladybird. We decided to head up the backside this week as we had not been that direction due to the logging activities. Although the trail up to 14km was in good shape it did need to be widened out for the tiller. Pulling some of the bank snow onto the trail was our goal. Not much new snow to report as we only saw 1500 meters in elevation, so spring like conditions to there. The cat is still parked just before 7 km with a small park area there and a larger area about 100 meters before it. Not much room for turning trailer’s around at the cat so you may want to stop when you see our signs up ahead. Goose Creek Trail Feb 8th 2024 The br-180 and drag are now parked up at 2 km. The plan is to try grooming across the snow bridge tonight as temps have been better this past week. Parking is tough on Goose when you have to drive up as switch backs are best but there are only a couple unless your ok riding gravel. Trailers are not recommended unless your prepared to unhook and spin around by hand. If all goes well tonight we will update the website tomorrow morning for those looking for snow conditions up top. Quick update on snow for Goose we probed 30cms of fresh powder at the airport and 185cms of base. Solid crust under the fresh. Parked cat just after the 2km bluffs problem is not alot of parking up there so you may have to ride the bluff secton of gravel if you decide to head up. Thanks goes out to CIMS again this season for helping out with a 500 dollar fuel tank fill. Your donation goes a long ways toward helping the club and community. Also want to thank all of you that bought memberships this season as the trail collection is way down. Your memberships and donations from all our great sponsors are the only way this club survives. If you hear others say they are going to just do trail passes next season remind them of what it means especially on a low snow pack year. Still lots of season left up top to explore with this type of snowpack. Be safe and check the avy reports before heading out. Ladybird Trail Feb 1st 2024 Trail groomed from 6.5km to 19km cat turnaround on Norns Creek. All went well other than the snow is not so good, as it was raining hard to 19km. We pulled snow from banks from 6.5 to 11km to make riding from cat parking spot better for sleds so please try not driving past cat with trucks. If the ice thats on the road gets ruts in it from truck traffic we may have to stay off it with the cat. Some ditches were settled but we were able to repair them as they were still intact. Probed 160cm and 10cm of wet heavy sloppy snow. Goose Creek Trail Feb 2nd 2024 Trail is also not so good, as the bottom has melted to the point you may want to drive up anywhere up to 1km. Please don't go further than you need to as it does melt the snow off quicker. The best thing would be to stay off it if you can resist the urge. I know how it is, I was there many years ago but it is bad. The report from the cat team today was that the snow bridge at the Frosty Y is still intact but the cat was sinking into the trail about 5inches so it was decided to not cross it. From the picture you can see it looks good for sleds but if we lose it by crossing it we the cat we may not be able to get it back in this season. Please ride like its spring if you must ride and hopfully we get some cooler temps next week. Enjoy the weekend and be safe out there. Goose Creek Trail Jan 25th 2024 Airport Trail Groomed Shaw Cabin Trail Groomed Frosty Trail Groomed First time out with the Br 350 all went until on our way down we had a small hydraulic line failure on the tiller. After getting things sorted out we were able to finish the groom with the blade. Thanks for the help up there boys. Temps up top were good and snow was coming down pretty good. We probed 45cms of fresh and a base of 180cms. Trail was rough and we do expect that to continue with the warm temps. We will add an extra groom this week to try help but there are some issues with the bottom of the trail melting off quickly with the rain. Nothing we can do with the bottom 4k of trail. Please if you like trails to last we all have to lay off the throttle. Just a few sleds with the 3inch paddles will destroy a trail if its not setting up after grooming. Go easy especially when cornering as you all know thats where most of the bumps start to form. Ladybird Trail Jan 26th 2024 Logging update today is that they just have two more truck loads coming out from 6km one saturday and one on monday. No more plowing of road so if it looks ok just unload in the parking lot and take it easy to 6km. Was good a couple days ago but things change quick with these temps. We will move cat down as soon as we get some snow down below. Avy conditions will be up as temps expected to go way up in the next few days be sure to play safe and check the reports. Have a good weekend. Ladybird Trail Jan 21st 2024 Ladybird Trail groomed from 11km to 19k, cat turnaround. All went well. We probed a base of 160cms at 19k and 25cms of somewhat heavy, hard to work snow on top of last weeks snowpack. We did notice some 15cm slabs on side of trail moving as we travelled by. The cat is now at 6.5km and we hope to groom from there on the next trip. Not knowing if any trucks were up at 14km we did not want to pull any snow onto the roadway yet. Please do not go past the cat with your trucks as there is plenty of snow on the road for cooling sleds now. The grader has not removed the last couple snowfalls. Logging is still active up to 6.5 km so be sure to use a radio if you plan on going up. There is a small park area by the cat and just before it. Be Safe out there as temps are not good, check the avy reports if your heading out. Snow will be hard to groom this week so we will be watching for cooler temps to get on Goose Creek later this week. Goose Creek Trail Jan 18th 2024 Trail to the airport groomed with the drag and the 180. Frosty cabin trail ran the blade and track packed. All went well with the groom other than breaking a shear pin on the drag hitch by catching a rock near the start of the trail. Please if you see rock on the trail you can help us out by throwing them off the trail. We have stopped many times this season for them but we can't stop for all of them thankyou. We probed 160cms of base and 15cms of fresh on the trail. Also need to mention we had a close call at the Shaw Cabin last week when someone decided to leave a piece of firewood on the stove and go for a ride. Lucky some riders got to the cabin with the piece of wood burning on top of the stove. Not sure what they were thinking but please don't do that. Hoping the 350 can make a trip up soon and fill some of the bigger ditches next week. Dropped off some wood for the Frosty Cabin and replaced and door knob on the Shaw Cabin. Ladybird Trail Jan 19th 2024 Logging continues up Ladybird but they are almost done. We still have the cat parked up at 11km and just waiting for a report of when we can move down, hoping for the end of next week. We will keep you posted. Please if you are coming down on a fresh trail go easy on it especially on corners, as it takes a few hours to set up.Thankyou Be safe out there and check the Avy reports as always if your heading into the back country. |
